Old browsers vs new browsers

10.12.2010
Upgrading an old browser to the latest version, be it Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Opera or Google Chrome, is important for three main reasons: First, the old browser is insecure and more vulnerable to attacks because it is not up to date with the latest security patches and their features. Vulnerabilities in your browser could allow password theft, malware infiltration, or worse. Up-to-date and updated browsers help fight against problems such as phishing and malware.

Secondly, the web is developing rapidly and many new features on websites and web applications simply won't work in the old browser. Only the latest versions of browsers have speed improvements that allow you to quickly work with web pages and applications while supporting modern web technologies such as CSS3, HTML5 and fast JavaScript.

And thirdly, old browsers simply slow down the development of the Web. If too many Internet users continue to use older browsers, then developers are forced to create sites and web applications that will support both old technologies and new ones. Being limited in time and resources, they try to find a middle ground and do not create the next innovative generation of web applications.

Old and obsolete browsers are bad for us users and for innovating the web. Take a minute and make sure you update your favorite browser to the latest version.
